By my green candle is one of the many expressions used by Ubu from the play Ubu Roi(King Ubu)
Here’s an extrait:

Octavio(the gnome) us loosely based on Ubu himself, loosely being the keyword, for the main thing they share is corpulence because it’s fun to draw :P
